Theodore Boone: Series

By: John Grisham

This series is fantastic.  I am not a huge fan of detective novels so the law drama was a much needed twist to hold my attention.  This series is fast paced with relatable characters.  Basically, Theodore, wants to be a lawyer and because both his parents are lawyers he is well known around the courthouse.  Since everybody knows him he starts to get unintentionally involved in a big murder trial.  This book is great because it teaches you about the way the American law system works.  It is also really good because it is 100% appropriate for younger grades but it is a law drama so if you are interested in reading something like that but aren't allowed now you have an option.  I would highly recommend this book!-Norah

The Night Gardener

By: Jonathan Auxier

The night gardener was definitely a horror book. The suspense kept me up reading till 1 am. Heartbreaking and thrilling is how I describe it. -Leah

Belly up

By: Stuart Gibbs

This book was about a kid named Teddy. Teddy lived at a zoo with his parents that both worked there. This book is pretty much about how Teddy solves the mystery of how the zoos hippo mascot, Henry died. Everyone said that Henry died to natural causes, but Teddy knew that couldn't possibly be true. I totally recommend this book for your first mystery novel, as it was mine. The author is really great at what he does and his books are spectacular! Definitely recommend, READ IT!-Delaney

Shakespeare's Secret

By: Elise Broach

Shakespeare's secret was a really good mystery and it's only one book. A family moves into a house where the previous owner hides a precious secret in its wall or ceilings I might say. Hero and her friend Danny are on their own little case to find out Shakespeare's secret with the help of Hero's neighbor, Mrs. Roth. I really liked this book and is so far my favorite mystery book that isn't in a series.-Lena

Friday Barnes: Series

By: R. A. Spratt

I loved this 8 book series it is about a girl that is a mega genius but has literally no social intelligence.  The side characters a fantastic as well!  She solves mysteries with humor that will have you cracking up for hours.  Throughout the chapters she solves lots of small mysteries that eventually lead up to the major one at the end.  I adore this series!  It is fast-paced, funny, and interesting!-Norah

Friday Barnes: Never Fear #8

By: R. A. Spratt

Friday Barnes is the eighth book of the series. It is one of my favorites in the series. It is about a girl detective  who solves mysteries for rewards.  The eighth book is where the original headmaster does not come back but a new and very efficient one turns up. There is also a rumor of gold that is hidden under the school. If you like a good mystery with drama, suspense and just the right mix of humor this is the book for you.-Annabelle

Friday Barnes: No Escape #9

By: R. A. Spratt

I cannot tell you how thrilled I was to find out there was going to be a 9th book!!  Ian is back!!!!  And Friday is still solving mysteries.  But this book was definitely simpler than the previous ones.  There is a less dramatic and confusing mystery.  It was more about Friday and her getting out of prison.  I love the fact that there is a new book and I am so excited for book 10!  I must say though, overall this book just wasn't as good.   Maybe I have gotten older and I'm not the target audience.  I just didn't feel like the quips were sharp enough.  And Friday wasn't saying as many random facts which is usually one of my favorite parts of these book.  I like the time skip but I'm not sure if I agree with how Friday has developed as a character.  It'l be interesting to see if she goes back to her old self in book #10.  That said, the reading experience was still great fun and you MUST read this series!-Norah

Greenglass House

By: Kate Milford

A boy called Milo lives at a smugglers inn, Milo's parents own the smugglers inn. In winter some mysterious guests come in the Greenglass house, when nobody else comes. Milo and Meddy think they're here for some reason from what stories they tell are connected to the house. It was a good book to read, but wasn't a book that I could sit through to the end. It was kind of slow in the beginning until they actually start suspecting the people in the inn. -Lena
I read this book too, and was not impressed. Lena's right, it was a pretty slow, but it ended up being okay. It was fairly interesting, but then too much happened, and it got very confusing. The end escalated quickly and was a touch weird. Overall, I was not impressed, especially with the great things I've heard about his book. -Allie
This took me FOREVER to get through and when I finally did I was not that impressed.  The plot was very complicated but in a bad way, all the characters have like 3 names, and it is so slow but when it finally picks up pace nothing makes sense.  Although I have to say the folktales that are in-twined in the story and surprise ending were quite good.  But, I implore you save your self some time and don't read this book or second book.  It is truly terrible!-Norah
I also read this book. It was very slow and I didn't really love it. Near the end I started to like the book but the beginning was so slow. The plot was really complicates and didn't make much sense. I was so lost when the plot started to pick up. None of the characters make sense either and they are all so confusing. If you are reading this book, don't give up on it until you get to the middle/close to the end and see how you like it when it speeds up.-Bella

The Mysterious Benedict Society

By: Trenton Lee Stewart

This was not the best book I've ever read.  It was funny and thrilling but there was no huge plot twists.  The characters were always guessing what would happen so nothing was ever unexpected. -Norah
